Just this past week, I bought a 1984 Honda Magna VF500. I couldn’t be more happy with it, it’s a lot of fun to ride and I’m excited to get back on it and cruise around.

I took a basic motorcycle class through Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, MN last September. It was a great course and the instructors made it a very informative experience and it was totally worth it, especially since I passed and got my license. After the winter ended, the hunt was on to find a bike, and fortunately, my Dad’s friend was selling his so I swooped it up right away.

I think it was a great investment and will definitely pay off over the summer months.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve started drawing a lot more and feeling out a lot of ideas I’ve had sitting around. I’ve completed (I think) four new drawings and have another two drawing concepts started; I’m getting pretty excited.

It Feels So Good to be Gone

Also, just last week my family and I took a vacation to Hawaii for the week. It was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it. I have never flown for a long distance so that alone was fun for me, but getting to a place so distant and different from where I’ve lived my entire life was amazing. I am excited to go back and look forward to seeing even more.

Eyesight to the Blind

The trip has inspired me in many ways and I am looking forward to interpreting those thoughts onto paper for my upcoming exhibit. As of late, I’ve been feeling like everything I come up with is too related to itself, and maybe that’s not a bad thing.

Also, I feel like changing too much of what I enjoy making will make it not my own, and that’s far from what I want. Though, I think the things I saw and experienced will definitely translate to my work which is something I’ve never really felt before. I’ve only known the Midwest so my eyes have surely been opened.

 

I had the opportunity to check out Pete’s (a friend of my friends Mike and Cat) ceramic clay firing on Saturday, March 7 in Walnut Grove, MN. My ceramic firing experiences have been fairly limited, really only done or seen in a classroom setting and the look and vibe around a hand built kiln is completely different.


The setting was very unusual, mostly because it was dark when we got there and I had no idea where I was, but the shelter for the kiln was so interesting looking. We took a few photos with long exposure to get the full effect and I think they captured the mysteriousness of it really well.

It will be interesting to hear how the firing went and hopefully see what the items produced look like. The whole process, uncertainty and all, is so interesting. Glad I was able to check it out!

It’s not often a trip to a big city goes as smoothly as planned, but in the case of SMSU’s art club trip, it couldn’t have gone better.


I saw on BRLSQ of North America’s website that they were having the “We Know What We Did Last Summer” gallery show and got super excited. A chance to see lots of prints from awesome designers immediately got me planning a trip to Minneapolis. I brought the idea up to our Art Club and the six of us got to planning.


We set out on Saturday, Jan. 31 to check out the Walker Art Museum, the Institute of Art, Groveland Gallery (where our drawing professor had some of his paintings and prints up) and finally Burlesque Design’s show.

I was glad everyone enjoyed BRLSQ so much, we took home some great posters and had a good time checking out their space. They are some seriously talented people!

Our day ended at the wonderful Chipotle and hanging out at the bar right across from our hotel. Colonel Preston’s I think. It was rad.
